Building Biology
All of us face a variety of health risks as we go about our daily activities.Driving a car, flying in airplanes, engaging in recreational activities, and being exposed to environmental pollution, all pose varying degrees of risk to health.
Some health risks are avoidable because we know about them and make the choice to avoid the risk. Some health risks we choose to accept, because to do otherwise would unacceptably restrict our ability to lead our lives the way we wish. However, there are risks we might choose to avoid if we knew about them and had the opportunity to make an informed choice.Environmental pollution is one of these.
In the last decade a growing body of scientific evidence has shown that our homes and work spaces can be more seriously polluted than urban outdoor environments.Since we now spend about 90% of our time indoors, this pollution presents a serious health challenge.
Building Biology (Bau Biologie™) was founded in Germany in the mid 1970’s to answer the need for knowledge about the indoor environment and health. This grew from the realization that post war buildings were affecting people’s health.A Building Biologist has studied the relationship between the built environment and health, and applies this knowledge to create health supporting living and work spaces. In Building Biology, we strive for natural solutions that will create a natural environment. It is the purpose of Building Biology and the Building Biology Environmental Consultant to apply this wealth of specialized knowledge to construction, or remediation, of homes and workplaces.
Bau-Biologists like Damon Coyne with Intentional Environment, are certified by the International Institute for Building Biology and Ecology in Clearwater, Florida
